Useful to Albanian Women Association

 


USEFUL TO ALBANIAN WOMEN (UAW) organization was established in 1993. UAW is one of the pioneering associations in the field of social and humanitarian service providers in Albania.

It is a social-humanitarian, non-governmental, non-profit and non-religious organization situated in Tirana and its development activities cover various regions of the country. This is achieved through the implementation of projects by the organization?s coordination offices. The status of UAW as a non-profit, non governmental organization was approved by the Supreme Court of the Republic of Albania, based on article Nr 285, dated 24.01.1996.

 

MAIN OBJECTIVE

The main objective of UAW is to protect the rights of women and children through lobbying, encourage women in decision making and to offer services and social support for women and children, always having their best interest in mind.

 

GOALS

- To inspire, encourage and support girls and women in defending their and their children?s rights against all forms of discrimination and misuse.

- To raise awareness on the role of girls and women in the family through lobbying and advocacy.

- To work with children and teenagers facing hardship, in order to facilitate their future integration.

- To setup development projects in a professional manner in order to achieve measurable and sustainable results.

- To establish fruitful co-operation with domestic and international institutions working on women and children issues.

 

ACTIVITIES

UAW implements various development projects.

Projects for women:

·  “Women Competence and Culture House” “Teuta e Re” Women?s Club.  This is an advising, training and entertaining center, open for all women and girls. It is a place where participants are involved in different educational, cultural and social activities, benefit from training etc. The centre offers social-psychological and juridical assistance and advice on different issues.

·   Employment Agency for Women and Girls, aimed at increasing employment opportunities for jobless women and girls.

·   BOW project against Trafficking in Human Beings, realized by a network of Greek and other NGOs. Its aim was the creation and function of shelters for refugees, victims of trafficking and the multilevel support of victims and the prevention of the phenomenon.

·   Projects against the trafficking of Albanian women, including studies, publicity and awareness raising campaigns, publications, research and other services.

·   UAW publishes “Diella”, its own monthly journal, distributed throughout the country.

·   Lobbying for improving the economic situation of women and women?s rights in general.

 

Projects for Children:

·   Integration centers for teenagers in need, offering vocational training, economic and social support, such as “Professional Alternative” in Tirana and “One dream more” in Elbasan.

·   Community center “Today for the Future” in Durrës providing integration services for women, children and the community as a whole.

·   Daily centers for children in Elbasan and Burrel, These centers offer free meals, as well as educational services and assistance for particularly vulnerable and abandoned children in Elbasan and Burrel.

·   Lobbying and advocacy against black work and drop out of school for children project.
