The Center for the Protection of Women and Children was established in1993, aiming at providing legal, health and psychological services to women and children. In particular, the activities of the Center include: making women and children aware of their rights; Giving advises and protecting human rights of women and children; Preventing violence; Directing assistance to victims of violence; Providing shelter for victims in danger; Providing social and judicial protection (representation in courts) as well as health and obstetric services; Counselling and educating on reproductive health, sexually transmitted diseases, hygiene; Offering psychosocial support and individual/group counselling; Organizing psychosocial and self help group activities and providing psychotherapeutically treatments.

 

The most important projects that the Center has carried out are:

1993-1998: Making women and families aware of violence and health services

1998-1999: IDP and refugee women and children help

1999-2003: Rape as a war weapon against women and girls

2000-ongoing: Trafficking in human beings

1999-ongoing: Domestic violence

1995-ongoing: STD & HIV/AIDS

 

The CPWC has organized a Regional Conference on Violence against women and children inn 4 pannels (2002) and has organized the training sessions: Getting to know human rights.The Center for Protection of Women and Children has been cooperating with the UN (WHO, UNFPA, OHCHR, UNICEF, UNMIK) the OSCE (ODIHR), IOM and other regional, International Organizations and NGOs (HRW, Save the children, War Child, etc).
