International Women's Rights Center La Strada-Ukraine


The problem of counteraction trafficking in human beings drew attention of non-governmental organizations. Foundation against trafficking in women (STV), which activity was directed to prevention trafficking in women and trafficked persons' support was founded at the end of 80thin the Netherlands. Together with non-governmental organizations from Poland and Czech Republic, STV initiated La Strada Program – Prevention Trafficking in Women from Central and Eastern Europe. Non-governmental organizations in Ukraine (1997), Bulgaria (1998), Macedonia, Moldova, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Belarus (2001) joined this program. The program was funded by the Netherlands government.

In November 2004 the International La Strada Association was registered in the Netherlands.  The International Women's Rights Center "La Strada-Ukraine" is one of the founders and the member of International La Strada Association. Since 1997 "La Strada-Ukraine" has been working in the field of prevention trafficking in people, especially women and children, elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence in society, observing human rights, gender equality and children rights protection. 

 

Main directions of "La Strada-Ukraine"activity:

Informational Campaign

- cooperation with mass media
- conducting informational campaigns
- conducting round tables, conference, round tables, etc. on the problem of trafficking in people, especially women and children, elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence in society, observing human rights, gender equality and children rights protection - creation and dissemination of social advertisements
- preparing, placing and regular updating the information on the above mentioned issues on Center's website
- systematic electronic news posting on the problem of trafficking in people
- preparing and dissemination electronic informational bulletins

 

Lobby Campaign

- conducting researches on the trafficking in people issues, sexual exploitation of children, violence, discrimination in the society and human rights issues
- cooperation with governmental and non governmental organizations in Ukraine and abroad
- cooperation with international organizations
- conducting round tables, conference, round tables, etc. on the problem of trafficking in people, especially women and children, elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence in society, observing human rights, gender equality and children rights protection

 

Preventive-Educational Campaign

- conducting educational activity among youth on prevention trafficking in people, especially women and children, elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence in society, observing human rights, gender equality and children rights protection
- conducting trainings, seminars, round tables, conference for specialists
- preparing,  publishing and dissemination of educational and methodological guidelines
- developing, publishing and distribution of the informational materials 
- cooperating with national and international governmental and non governmental organizations in Ukraine and abroad to prevent trafficking in persons

 

Social Assistance Campaign

- organizing social assistance for trafficked persons (medical, psychological, legal, short term sheltering, social accompanying, referring, etc.)
- organizing and providing assistance children suffered from trafficking in children, sexual exploitation and violence
- exercising the models of providing assistance and transforming the experience to non governmental organizations
- assistance in searching for missing Ukrainian citizens disappeared abroad and assisting in returning to Ukraine
- strengthening the network on international, governmental and non governmental organization providing assistance for trafficked people
- preparing, publishing and distribution of the informational materials for trafficked persons and suffered from violence

 

Hot line

- organizing the work of the National Toll Free Hot Line on trafficking in people issues
- organizing the work of the National Toll Free Hot Line on violence prevention and children rights protection
- providing consultation on going to work or study abroad, marriages with the foreigners; consulting on violence issues and children rights protection
- providing psychological assistance for trafficked persons and suffered from violence
- running and updating data base for consulting on the problem of trafficking in persons;
- cooperation with diplomatic institutions of foreign countries in Ukraine and diplomatic Ukrainian institutions abroad on providing assistance for trafficked people
- organizing and conducting round tables, seminars, conferences, etc. for hot line consultants conducting trainings on organizing and running the hot lines
- consulting through the Internet on the issues of going to work or study abroad, marriage with a foreigner, etc.
